CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION IN TENNESSEE

Attorneys in Tennessee are required to earn a minimum of fifteen (15) continuing legal education credit hours by December 31 per calendar year. A maximum of eight (8) hours of credit per year in a “distance learning” format such as telephone conference call seminars (“teleseminars”) and web-based ("online") CLE may be applied to the annual 15 credit hour requirement.

Three (3) of the 15 credit hours must deal with ethics and professionalism (E&P credits). A total of 15 hours of credit (including distance learning credits) in excess of the minimum annual requirement may be carried forward for credit in the succeeding calendar year, but only for the succeeding calendar year. E&P credits in excess of the annual requirement will, to a maximum of three (3) hours, be carried forward to the subsequent year's E&P requirement, but will not be used to satisfy any deficiency in the twelve (12) hour general requirement. Dual credit carried forward to the subsequent year may satisfy either E&P or General credit. Go to www.cletn.com, the TN Commission on CLE and Specialization website, for further information about Tennessee’s CLE Rules and Regulations.

THE REPORTING OF CLE CREDIT HOURS TO THE TENNESSEE COMMISSION ON CLE AND SPECIALIZATION

Nashville Bar Association courses are approved by the Tennessee Commission on CLE and Specialization. CLE credits for your completed teleseminar course are reported to the Tennessee Commission on CLE and Specialization within 30 days of course completion. This reporting schedule exceeds the Tennessee Commission reporting requirements for CLE sponsors. Participants receive credit only for the minutes connected with the teleseminar.

The date that you complete the teleseminar course is the date recorded for course attendance. CLE hours completed by midnight on December 31 of a calendar year satisfy CLE requirements for that calendar year. The Nashville Bar Association does not report CLE hours to other states.
